Recycling Lives has done the double – winning two Downtown In Business awards in as many weeks.
The recycling and waste management business won the Tony Award at Downtown’s City of Manchester Business Awards on June 22.
Handed out in honour of Manchester’s late cultural icon Tony Wilson, awards organiser likened Recycling Lives ethos to Tony Wilson’s famous quote – “This is Manchester…we do things differently here,” – noting the social business’ track record for doing things differently.
“Recycling Lives doesn’t just do things differently – it makes a difference,” awards organisers told the ceremony attendees, at the Principal Hotel on Manchester’s Oxford Road.
It follows a win at the business club’s Lancashire Business Awards a fortnight earlier, as it was honoured with the Contribution to Lancashire Award, recognising the business’ commitment to communities in the county.
Commercial director Simon Edwards said:
“We are honoured to have won a second Downtown In Business Award, recognised by our peers for our commitment to more than just excellent commercial services, but to creating social impact through our work.
“We are excited to be working with businesses and communities across Greater Manchester. We have recently opened a site in Bury – adding to our sites in Lancashire and the Midlands – and are working with offenders in the region’s only women’s prison.”
Keynote speaker at the event was Manchester’s elected mayor Andy Burnham. Mr Burnham addressed the hundreds of business people attending, thanking them for their commitment to the city region and noting how they are keen to give back.
