Ramadan Mubarak' from Recycling Lives

Today marks the first day of the Islamic holy month, Ramadan, and Recycling Lives would like to wish all its Muslim clients, corporate partners, staff, supporters and neighbours a “Ramadan Mubarak!”

For the next 30 days, Muslims who are observing the holy month will be going without food and water between sunrise and sunset.

This is set to be one of the longest fasts in recent years – peaking at around 21 hours a day! – so we wish all our Muslim friends good luck and good health as they work hard to keep their fasts until Eid-al-Fitr, which is likely to fall on August the 7th.

Besides the lengthy fasts, Ramadan is a time for giving and reflection for Muslims, many of whom choose to donate 2.5% of their annual income to the poor and needy at the start of this month. This yearly charitable donation is an obligatory part of Islam, and making it at the start of Ramadan means that funds can be distributed to those in need in time for Eid.

Here at Recycling Lives, we embrace the importance of supporting those who are vulnerable and less fortunate than ourselves. Every contract that we are awarded helps us to continue the vital work of our social welfare charity, which offers accommodation, training, work experience and employment opportunities to homeless and unemployed individuals.

Our Residents come to us from troubled backgrounds. Whether they’ve had a life of difficulties or have been suddenly hit by family breakdowns and marriage crises, they’ve all had it tough.

Living together with people who’ve experienced similar trials can be a huge support for our Residents. The sense of community that comes from living with others in a secure, non-judgemental environment gives marginalised individuals the space they need to gather their thoughts and work out where their next step will be.

Our fully trained staff are on hand to help Residents negotiate challenges like getting out of debt, becoming solvent, opening a bank account, registering with a doctor and getting back into education or employment. In short, we offer a helping hand and they take it.

Muslim or not, we can all take a little time from our busy lives to help other people. Recycling Lives makes it easy to support UK charities and communities – simply booking one of our competitive recycling or waste management services for your company, or using our Tyre Bay or Skip Hire services, will help us to fund our charity for a little bit longer.

There’s also our Community Dotcom schemes, which offer UK householders the chance to book a collection and recycling service right from their front room, by-passing the hassle of loading up goods and taking them to the tip.

Simply visit our Community Dotcom sites to book a bulky waste or furniture collection (we also offer scrap car collections!), and we’ll come and get your unwanted goods. The items we collect are reused or recycled, and the money we make from the schemes is poured back into our charitable ventures.

We work with other charities across the UK to deliver these services, meaning that the benefits are spread even further. So, whether you’re flat out from fasting or just busy with work, choose our Community Dotcoms to help you lighten the load.

Ramadan Mubarak from everyone at Recycling Lives!
